The Gasfitter's Ball - A Steampunk Ball

Join a vast array of Victorian personalities from England and the far corners of the world. Dine on a fabulous dinner & dessert buffet by Affairs of Elegance. Dance to the live music brought to you by the Philadelphia Band & Promenade Orchestra. 

This year's Ball celebrates Steampunk, a sub-genre of fantasy and speculative fiction that denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne.

Irving Thalberg: Creating the Hollywood Studio System, 1920-1936

The Academy recognizes legendary production executive Irving Thalberg (1899-1936) with a major gallery exhibition featuring unpublished photographs, enlightening documents, poster art, props and costumes from motion pictures overseen by Hollywood’s original “Boy Wonder.”  ... The exhibition includes portraits by George Hurrell and Clarence Bull of many of Thalberg’s stars.... Also on display will be costumes designed by Adrian and set designs by Cedric Gibbons.

Southern California Autumn Ball - Friends of the English Regency

Roughing the year 1800, a recreation of the age of Jane Austen and Beau Brummell, when the cut of a man's coat was as important as his politics.  The Autumn Ball offers a day of dance classes and finishes with a high tea, period dance, and a late buffet supper.  Dancing will be until midnight.

Medieval Fantasy Festival

An Earth Day Faire with a Celtic Flair.  (Formally Middle-earth Festival) "Join us as we celebrate the vision of celebrated fantasy authors.  If you have an inkling of whom we speak, you will know that all tree spirits, wizards, fauns, elves, fairies, dragons, short sturdy folk, pint-sized folk and other mythical beings are welcome." 1800's Country Fair and Loggers' Jubilee - Big Bear & Grand Mask Ball

The Big Bear Valley Renaissance Society, Inc. and the Old Miners Association are delighted to announce the 1800's Country Fair and Loggers Jubilee at their permanent site on the north shore of Big Bear Lake!

Hosted in the lovely little town of Fawnskin, the event will showcase the entire nineteenth century, including Victoriana, pioneers, the wild west, old miners, loggers, and the American civil war. Come prepared to encounter literary characters and authors, historical figures, shoot outs in the streets, arrests and judgments from the "hangin' judge." There will be period entertainment and games. The Loggers Jubilee competitions, featuring everything from pole-climbing to tomahawk throwing to chainsaw events and more, will be open to the general public.

While not all visitors come in costume, a great many do. The site will be set up to cover both American Old West and English Victorian with vendors and five stage's worth of entertainment of both as well as performers

Queen Mary Art Deco Festival

Marching Through History Military Exposition

MTHE is a family-oriented, educational atmosphere, celebrating the history of those who have defended their civilizations throughout history. MTHE is the largest time-line living history event west of the Mississippi River. Stagecoach Day / Fall Festival - Los Encinos State Historic Park

Los Encinos State Historic Park in Encino will host "Stagecoach Day" celebrating the 150th Anniversary of the start of scheduled stagecoach service in California.  An actual stagecoach with horses, traveling the old Overland Mail route (Ventura Blvd) from Campo de Cahuenga in Universal City to Los Encinos and then to the Leonis Adobe in Calabasas. It is scheduled to arrive at Los Encinos around mid day. The program at Los Encinos will feature two 19th Century style bands, Victorian dancing, a blacksmith, a telegraph office, children's games, tours of the restored 1849 adobe and participants in authentic Victorian costume.

Pack a picnic and stay the day--admission is free. Old West attire is encouraged (no weapons please)
