Elizabeth's Green Gown

Elizabeth: the Golden Era - Movie Costumes

bulletExhibited at the Arcllight Cinema in Hollywood - October 2007
bulletAll photos by Garfeimao, unless otherwise noted

This gown has some interesting design techniques.  The main fabric is a green damask with a pseudo ruff constructed of the same fabric.  The fabric for the partlet is an exquisite net over embroidered with gold with large green accent pieces.  The skirt is a much simpler white satin and green-gold leafy branch design.  The skirt is accented with strips of similar, but not exact, embroidered net.

Mystical and questioning.  Green beetle wing glinting though gold lace, floating over green lichen damask.  Shrouded and private, traveling on water by moonlight.

Gown detailing

In this section, the picture on the right is a detailed enhancement of the left.

Center of skirt.  Look closely at the green pieces.  They are different shapes.  Are these bits of stones added to the fabric?  Also noticed the edging on the outer skirt, individual beads on the edges.
Bottom of the skirt, you can see bits of the net.  Note the pattern of the embroidery is different that what is scene on the partlet.

Note the button detailing and joins on the collar.  Has this piece been specifically embroidered for this outfit?
