Elven Grove, Part 15
Here we feature even more costumes from our folks who have recreated some of the
wonders of the Elven folks.
Work here represents recreations at all skill levels.
Picture hyperlinks will open to more details about the costumes.

Arwen's Mourning Gown

Kathy S. (Kay Dee) - California, USA
I was inspired to recreate this stunning gown after seeing it on display
at FIDM and Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills, CA. I used 11 yards of navy
blue silk velvet, navy blue habotai silk lining, and scarlet red sueded
charmeuse silk for the belt and neck inset. After a long search I found
the original gold buttons used on the costume, and I opted to use a
bullion embroidered border cut from a red sari for the sleeve and neck
trim (adding my own beading, and additional gold bullion loops to fill
out the design).
PATTERNS USED: I heavily modified
Simplicity 9103 for the bodice,
McCall's 3109 for the skirt, and I drafted my own sleeves using
McCall's 3663 (View
B) and
Simplicity 9891 as a starting point.
Additional photos, research and construction notes can be seen at my web
site.

Elven Dress
|
Katrina Rather than do a tribute
costume (I don't like to follow the norm) I tried to make my own vision
of the character's costume. i.e. if you were to look into Eowyn's
closet, what other dresses would be in there besides the ones seen in
the movie?
So here is a picture of an elven dress I made. It is color saturated
film, so the color is very bright...same with my hair (which is NOT a
wig...all mine!) The second is of me and my husband.

Arwen Undómiel's Ceremonial Gown
Nenwen
|
animechicky - Massachusetts, USA
Patterns: Dress- alteration of simplicity 9891
Sleeves- personally designed pattern
Fabrics: dress fabric was a gift and the sleeves were
a empress cut costume from a dance performance a couple years back. So
I couldn't tell you what the fabric is exactly.
Building notes: I used two types of trim on the arm
bands and hemming it myself was really annoying but not terribly
hard.

Arwen's Chase Dress
|
April - New Zealand
Ability: Novice. I haven't sewn since primary school 'home economics'
classes! Pattern: Simplicity 9891
Notes: Completed in June 2003, this costume was the most challenging
and frustrating thing I have ever made with my own hands ... but
definitely worth it. Especially when being complimented on it by Ben
Wootten, LOTR designer and sculptor, at the Return of the Ringers
Party in Wellington, December 2003!
