Smeago!

This is my husband, Scot, dressed as Smeagol for Trilogy Tuesday.

This recreation was more cosmetic than costume, created by myself (Sidhe) and my friend Squidtrek.  We did purchase a dark brown pair of ladies flat front pants at Goodwill (no zippers to worry about) and shred them to bits, as well as a brown t-shirt we also shred to bits (we had to have him wear a shirt in the theater).  We started out by cutting the pants and top with scissors, then went back in with razors to create jagged edges.  For a final touch, I mixed a "mud" coloured paint and painted mud on the "loincloth."

Scott wore a skullcap purchased locally that we hand-glued long black hair to from a cheap wig purchased after Halloween.  We used liquid latex to "glue" the hair onto the skullcap, one piece at a time.

The ears were actually part of a "wizard" cosmetic set from a Halloween store.  They are a hard rubber and very durable, and I knew they would be great for Smeagol, but they were originally a strange purple color.  We painted them to match Scott's skintone.

Finally on the big day, Squidtrek blended theatrical makeup to blend to his skintone, and "glued" all the pieces to Scott's head with more liquid latex (I can't recommend enough the use of liquid latex).  Scott then took some darker makeup and smeared it on his body to simulate dirt and age spots.

Originally we had purchased "sticky shoes" for Scott to wear on the big day, but with how active he was being, these proved pointless, so he just went barefoot for the day.  The fish was purchased at a local store (you cannot fathom how hard it is to find a fake fish...took me over a month to find that), and the "elven rope" is 3 pieces of white yarn woven with silver thread that we braided together.

I want to point out that Scott wore this "costume" in the middle of an Ohio December.  Many people suggested to me that I purchase a skin colored bodysuit for him to wear to stay warm, but he was insistent...he has the most incredibly skinny body and pale skin, which was why we decided on this costume in the first place.  He won first place in the costume contest, and was featured on CNN.com, Foxnews.com, and several local papers!
