Deanna's costume was made with Simplicity pattern - 9966SIM. Her vest was made from cotton upholstery remnants, while the shirt was made from unbleached homespun. She used green and purple poly blend cottons to make the skirt. And added a thick commercial trim.
The hobbit feet were made from commercial costume rubber feet slippers. All I had to do is repaint them and add the hair which was taken from synthetic hair braids.
The
only Cloth on my costume is the hood and the green and white striped cotton
pants that are barley visible. The hood is a red cotton homespun with black
linen edging and a small black, red and white commercial trim.
The coat is reminiscent of
13th Century Mongol armor. The only difference is that the individual plates
I used are larger than the originals most of my plates are 2”X4”. The armor
is made from 26Ga. sheet aluminum which has been riveted onto a heavy canvas
backing. The rivets are the two piece leather quick rivets. The coat is a
simple sleeveless vest that buckles across the chest. The upper arms are
shaped like a T. Downward part of the T runs
down the arm while the cross bar hangs down the front and back to protect
the armpit. The legs and the forearms are basically made the same way but
are long and narrow. This style is easy for novices as most of the
components of the armor are flat and have simple cuts that can be made with
tin snips. The only pieces that were formed are the helmet, the gloves, the
elbows and the toe plate of the armored boots. They were dished with a round
hammer over a tree stump. The symbols and designs are painted with enamel
model paints.
The beard was created with synthetic hair braids that were sewn to a lace strip. The beard was braided and decorated with jeweled button covers, that were found at a craft store.
