Tess & Mars - Washington, USA

Nazgul

Jonathan expressed an interest in being a Ring Wraith for the Halloween Ring Con Ball so we came up with a fairly simple costume for him. Tess did all the sewing and pinned and hand-stitched the bits together on him, so it all fit properly. The main costume is a heavy black cotton that's been brushed so it hangs beautifully and eats light.  I think she either used no pattern and/or she cobbled bits from the wizard robe pattern Simplicity puts out. The sleeves are hugely long, then tacked up to make the bunchy bit that hangs over the wrists. Over that, the hood and cowling are a matte satin usually used for lining and so inexpensive.

A normal black leather belt keeps the robe closed, with the silver buckled vanished by electric tape.

I made the gloves, and wish I'd had more time, but in masquerade lighting, they look fine and got some compliments too. They're very simple: black latex kitchen gloves with silver foil label stock cut in shapes and stuck on, then the whole of it drybrushed with shades of greys, blacks and silver. For shorthand, they work very well.

Since he's over six feet tall, the high cowl made Jonathan look nearly seven: in person, it was an impressive sight. In company with another friend in Wraith gear and my sister and myself in Dead Marsh Elf costume, our group stood out a little bit in the room full of gentry. One lady refused to walk between us in the main aisle. That was a high compliment!
