Refugee Outfit

For this dress I used Easy Stitch and Save 8319 and New Look 6042, both with massive modifications, since the New Look is just a peasant shirt, I had to lengthen it for the dress.  The jumper's open sides I free handed.  The underdress is made of silk essence and the jumper of brown suede cloth.  All the hems on the jumper were hand rolled.  On the underdress, I embroidered a line of gold around the neckline and fought with the sleeves until I got them right.

Blue Elf Dress

I made this dress using Simplicity 9891 and added a cowl neck and widened the upper sleeves by about five inches.  I also added hidden hooks under the trim and thread loops at the end of the sleeves to make them more manageable.  It's made from silk essence (WHICH I LOVE!!!!), ten yards of it!

It was originally meant to be the underdress of Arwen's Requiem dress, but I didn't like the over dress, so it became a generic elf.  The underskirt is also silk essence, but the pattern I used is so out of date, I don't even have the number anymore.

The headdress was formed by twisting pearl strands with beading wire to get the right shape and then playing with the loops.  The flower bits and ends of the loops were glued to clear hair combs.

Shieldmaiden

I made this Shieldmaiden dress for a friend to wear to the premiere of ROTK.  The pattern for the shirt is a very old out of date one, basically a peasant shirt with a keyhole neckline that I expanded a bit.  The shirt and skirt are separate.  The skirt is simply three panels of 45" material sewn onto an elastic waistband.  The sleeves were a two parter, the upper just a puff peasant sleeve, the lower, the width of the material, 45", gathered at the edges, which form the slits.  A fabric covered elastic band secured the puff in place.  The material I used was cream baroque satin, which frays HORIBLY!

For the vest I used brown suedecloth and New Look 6863.  Worked like a dream.  The corset was a modified New Look 6140.  I quilted it in one inch squares

Merry

My youngest nephew went as Merry last Halloween.  The vest was modified from an old boys vest pattern and randomly quilted.  The shrit was bought and the cape my own pattern, just a rectangle with a hood really.

Frodo

My nephew went as Frodo last Halloween.  This one was mainly a throw together from the thrift store, except the cape, which was my own pattern.

Legolas

Last Halloween my oldest nephew went as Legolas. The jerkin was of material I had at home, and mostly of my own design, with help from Alley Cat Scratch, of course. The under shirt is silver silk dupioni scraps sewn onto a t-shirt where it would be visible. The quiver and straps, that you can't see, are made from felt, with arrows of dowel rods. The cloak is hoodless and simply two wedges sewn together to get the most out of the fabric. This was a quick throw together costume, and so isn't as accurate as we all would like!
