Wicked Literature: A Halloween Theatre Festival

2017 Update  WICKED LIT is an evening of classic terror tales presented as a live theatre event at a working mausoleum and cemetery.

Join us for an evening of immersive theatre featuring three world premiere plays, all adapted from classic horror literature. Move among the headstones in the cemetery and through the hallways of the mausoleum as a cast of 20 actors brings these haunting tales to life!

The Wicked Literature Play Reading Series will present staged readings of classic Halloween literature adapted for the stage by contemporary playwrights. Audiences will literally walk the grounds of the Mountain View Mausoleum and Cemetery campus as the plays take place around them. Attendees will be lead to and from each play by a Story-guide.

Please note: This is an alternative (non-theatre) venue.  It’s a mausoleum and cemetery and involves moving our audience around the various spaces on the property.  Limited Engagement: This Show Will Sell Out ~ Rain Or Shine.  Please wear comfortable walking shoes as this is a  MOVING SHOW with MANY STAIRS TO CLIMB.  Haunting stories since 2008.

Ward 13 – Evil Twin Studios

(No Haunt for 2016 / 2017)

 Evil Twin Studios returns to South Pasadena’s Fremont Centre Theatre.  WARD 13 is an intense, immersive, interactive, walk-through haunted attraction where sanity comes to die.  There have always been dark rumors about the Raymond Hill Sanitarium, but the most disturbing ones center around an undocumented area for the most violent patients where experimentation took precedence over finding a cure. For the residents of the sanitarium, there was one thing they all feared more than death… WARD 13. Haunting since 2012.

Drama After Dark: A Night of the Macabre with Poe and Gorey – The Huntington Library

2017 Update Thrill to the tales of Edgar Allan Poe and Edward Gorey in an evening of chilling drama presented by the actors of the Guild of St. George.  Thrill to the tales of Edgar Allan Poe and Edward Gorey in an evening of chilling drama presented by the actors of the Guild of St. George. Haunting works will be enacted throughout the moonlit grounds, including “The Pit and the Pendulum,” “The Tell-Tale Heart,” “The Gashlycrumb Tinies,” and more. more performances that are played simultaneously at various performance sites throughout the upper levels of the grounds. Goosebumps guaranteed! With the Guild of St George.

The running time of each performance is approximately 20-25 minutes.   This is a “pick-your-path” type of event where you choose what you want to see at any given time. There will be approximately 10 performances. If you plan your path well you can see up to 6 performances. A schedule will be sent.  Chairs are provided.  Wheal chair accessible.

Strange Science: Dark Corners of the Library – Huntington Library

Premier members only event.

2017 Update Explore the magic, mysticism, and alchemy that lurks in the Library through special displays and presentations. “Strange Science” is one of our most popular events to date; an evening of weird and wonderful fun, Members marveled at rarely displayed objects from our History of Science vaults, indulged in ghoulish refreshments, and discovered the eerier side of The Huntington.

Curators pulled eerie objects out of the vaults for a rare display, scholars lectured on arcane subjects, and inventor Nikola Tesla (portrayed by Owen Phairis) demonstrated his impressive electrical apparatus. Live birds and animals from Conservation Ambassadors held court under a rugged oak, and scientists from NASA/JPL presented interactive models of the Cassini mission to Saturn. Guests enjoyed food truck fare and fiendishly delicious desserts, and there were plenty of Halloween “spirits,” too, including Ghostly Gimlet and Monster Mojito cocktails, served in frosty test tubes.

Into the Black  New Event

2017 Update Follow in the footsteps of the paranormal team once they are inside the Black house where demons lurk within. OH and by the way, you walk through alone. YES…we said ALONE!?  The Into the Black Haunted Experience is a single person walk through. This means you WILL go through alone. No exceptions. 

?There is also a Virtual Reality Experience that will bring you back in time to witness the horrors that happened in the Black house. Brought to you by Hollow Studios.  ?And if that’s not enough…We have a Behind the Scenes Documentary that will show you our experience of bringing this to life!   Haunting since 2017.

The RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns – LA Convention Center & LA FairPlex

Come see thousands of hand-carved illuminated jack o’lanterns creatively arranged along a scenic indoors walking path and set to a musical score designed to bring out the Halloween spirit in visitors of all ages! The various new and exciting themes created for 2016 are sure to impress both RISE newbies and returning RISE fans.

This year, we’re DOUBLING the number of intricately carved 100+ pound pumpkins on display.   We’re also bringing back our iconic multi-pumpkin structures that consist of dozens of illuminated jack o’lanterns assembled into life-sized pieces of art. You’ll see classic fan-favorites like life-sized dinosaurs, dragons, and safari animals, as well as a number of new structures featuring time-honored characters from some favorite movies, including one that will make you feel like you’re in a galaxy far, far, away.

Our live carving efforts are expanding for 2016 so that you can learn more about how we do what we do! We’ll have four live-carving stations where you can watch our artists create the different types of displays you see in the show all right before your eyes! Watch us illustrate and carve our famous 100+ pound pumpkins, see us build a multi-pumpkin jack o’lantern structure similar to our iconic raptor skeletons, catch some of the most talented pumpkin sculptors in the country carving our signature 3D sculpted pumpkins, and learn how our team churns out thousands of Halloween jack o’lanterns per day, in our Mini Carving Factory.

The Curse of the Conquistador’s Gold

The Circle Squared Collective, presents a Halloween Escape Room Experience inspired by the folk lore legend of the Rio Hondo River Valley.  You are part of a special investigations team hired to find the cellphone, figure out what happened to the lost treasure hunter, and maybe even find the Conquistador’s Lost Gold! But beware! If you don’t find it within the hour, the ghost of the Conquistador will find you and curse you for trying to steal his gold, locking you away forever!”Players will have 45 minutes to solve a series of riddles and puzzles.

No jail this year do to construction renovations. For 2010 Halloween is at the Altadena Community Center.

Set in the 1948 jail, scary in of its self, our visitors will walk through different zones where they will encounter our ghoulish ‘prisoners’. Be prepared to be scared in 3D.” Haunting since 1998.
