There are many Harvest Festivals in Los Angeles proper, and more in the Beach Cities.  In the dense city area, most of these events are one day events right around Halloween.  Check the outlying area for events all October in the main index.

Underwood Family Farms Harvest Festival (Moorpark / Newbury Park) 

2017 Update The Ventura county farm opens up every October for a Harvest Festival. Acres of pumpkins and other fall vegetables, plus lots of entertainment, themed by weekend. Craft fair and a country store.  Weekend admission includes live music,  animal show, pig races, Tractor-Drawn Wagon Rides, the Corn Maze, Farmer Craig’s Chicken show, the corn stalk labyrinth, combine slide, live entertainment, pumpkin patch (pumpkins not included), and the Animal Center which has a fun hill and tunnel, hay pyramids, animal exhibits and information, kid’s corral and pedal tractors, as well as a wooden climbing train.  Tons of open space & photo ops in the pumpkin patch!  See website for weekday events.

What would a festival be without tons of good food?! On the weekends, there will be many food vendors serving up hot dogs, hamburgers, roasted corn on the cob, pie, Mexican food, shave ice, kettle corn, cookies and many more homemade goodies to make your mouth water.

  • September 30 – October 1, 2017: Friends of the Farm Weekend – will help benefit local sheriff and fire charities.  Demonstrations including Fire Trucks, Ladder Trucks, members of the Bomb Squad with their bomb robot, Swat members with SWAT tank type vehicle, Search and Rescue Snow Cat, K-9, and much more.
  • October 7-8, 2017: Farm Country Weekend – Get ready for some Country! Local Ventura County bands will perform throughout the weekend on the Main stage.  Down home fun on the farm complete with country and bluegrass music.  The weekend will be filled with fun such as pig races, Animal Shows, Heide on Horse and various performers from Jumbo Shrimp Circus.
  • October 14-15, 2017: Antique Tractor Weekend – View dozens of unique old tractors from Farmall & John Deere to Case, Ford, & Allis Chalmers.  These beauties will be on display along with their proud owners who are ready to answer any question you may have. Don’t miss the tractor parades.  Be sure not to miss the unbelievable Animal Show held throughout the day on the weekends as well as  Pig Races! Take a ride down our brand-new combine harvester slide!
  • October 21-22, 2017: Western Weekend! – There will be stunt ropers, exhibitions of skill and daring with the traditional tool of the Old West, the bullwhip, covered wagon, music, magic and much more with music, games, rides, races and tons of family fun.
  • October 28-29, 2017: All About Pumpkins – From tiny to enormous, orange to green, perfect to bizarre – we have them all! Whatever your preference, every type of pumpkin you could ever imagine, just waiting in our fields hoping to find a home.  In addition to the displays of fall, harvest, and Halloween decor, artistic members of the staff spend the week decorating and carving pumpkins for this special weekend.  Plus all the regular fun of animal shows, maze, rides, and more.

Tractor-pulled Train Ride – Take a narrated ride around the Farm. Farm Frolic Area for Kids – Mini maze, Giant Hay Pyramid, the Great Pumpkin jumper. Calabasas Pumpkin Festival 

2017 Update The Pumpkin Festival offers live bands, a dj dance zone, marketplace vendors, delicious food & pumpkin treats, pumpkin beer, pumpkin painting, professional pumpkin carving and so much more! The low $5 admission price includes all inflatables & a giant slide, Halloween carnival games, reptiles & bug shows, contests, a Saturday morning costume parade plus car displays, bands, and a Business Expo.  Kids’ costume contest, Mummy Wrapping.

2017 Update Ensemble Shakespeare Theatre returns to Descanso with a fun monster-filled production for the whole family to enjoy. Kids (and grown-ups) are encouraged to come in costume!

Little Owls reading Nest

2017 Update Bring your fledglings to our new storytime at the giant nest in Nature’s Table. Young and old will be inspired by storytelling in our natural setting. Afterward, explore the gardens with hints from our educators on how to bring the story alive…you just might find the critters, plants and places that populate our stories!

Haunted Adventure Tour at the Starlight Bowl

The Unknown

2017 Update Get ready for a frightful night at the Haunted Adventure Tour.  The Burbank Nature Docents will lead you on a frightening tour of the Starlight Bowl turned into a haunted house. This terrifying tour is very scary and children under 6 years old will not be allowed. No refunds for scared participants.  Haunting since 1996.

No flashlights, costumes or props.  Wear comfortable shoes.  Will walk up and down hills.

2017 Update Haunted maze.  Special Interactive Attractions: Haunted House, 12 story rock climbing wall, Ultrazone Lazer Tag, Ultimate game Truck, Stormtrooper Blasters  Teacher’s parking lot will be taken over: Go Carts, ATV Racers,Lifesize Bowling. Food and snacks.  The younger kids can visit during the early hours and get a (light) scare, and after dark the braver kids can get their SCARE on!

 Lombardi Ranch  

Closed  Visit a real working farm. Typical crops for a year are sweet corn, both yellow and white, tomatoes ripened on the vine, onions, peppers, both hot and sweet, summer squashes, winter squashes, melons of all different varieties, watermelons and flowers. During the month of October they add pumpkins, Indian corn, corn stalks and gourds, family fun and entertainment.

Plenty of fun for the whole family. On the weekends: Petting Zoo, Train Rides, Wagon Rides, Face Painting, Walking Scarecrows Handing Out Candy, Balloons and Stickers. Live bands all weekend. Everything from R&B to 50’s & 60’s rock and roll to country. Halloween – 5k run. Old fashion local bake sales.
