Howlin’ Halloween Events for Dogs and Cats in Los Angeles

Halloween isn’t just for the two legged folks, let the 4 legged ones play too! Below are places where both you can your pet can play in costume.  Note: a lot of these start a bit early to leave the end of the month for the humans.

Let the dogs come out and play! We haven’t found events for cats yet, please let us know if you find any.

Haute Dog Howl’oween Parade & Canine Costume Contest –  Long Beach

2017 Update As the title says, this is a doggie costume contest!!! Bring your pet and howl with the pampered pooches.

Hundreds of dogs expected! And, a few thousand spectators will line the parade route which will be on the concrete bike path that runs through the park from Colorado St. to Eliot St.  See website for parade map. Parade 2:30 . Prizes of a year’s dog food for best costume, best group and best “float”.

Besides the costume contest and parade, bulldog kissing booth, bobbing for Howl’oWeenies, look-a-like contest and more. Super pet adoption fair. Bulldog Kissing Booth – SLURP!

The Rescue Train – Race for the Rescues

2017 Update Annual run for the rescue — rescue animals that is. 5 k run walk for adults and a 1k non-competition race for the kids. 1k dog walk.  Fun activities for animal lovers of every age! Including prizes and awards for top racers and fundraisers, celebrity art auction, Halloween Rescue Show, Drawing classes for kids, dog training demonstration, doggie bounce house, unique pet products, food trucks, face painting, pet physic and more! If you don’t want to run, bring your pet out for a fun day. If you don’t have a pet yet, consider adoption. A number of groups will have dogs and cats out there.

Sponsored by The Rescue Train, Best Friends Animal Society, The Lange Foundation, Kitten Rescue, A Dog’s Life Rescue, Four Legged Friends Foundation, Animal Alliance & Molly’s Mutts and Meows. Each year these 7 non-profit animal rescues save, house, give medical treatment and find loving homes for approximately 1500 once-forgotten animals. (Since 2006.)

Surf City Surf Dog

2017 Update Grab your surfboard and your pup and hit the waves. Pooches will be able to “hang 20” in surfing competitions and strut their stuff in a variety of dog-gone fun activities and contests while raising funds for animal welfare organizations. All activities will take place at Huntington Dog Beach, starting at 8 a.m.. Surf Dog Competition, Woofin’ Walk, Look-a-like, costume contest, Cowabunga Costume Contest and Woofin Walk participants.

All dogs must wear a life vest. Special Surf City Surf Dog vests will be available for rent or purchase. Surfboards will be for rent. See site for judging criteria and point system.

??? Join the Los Angeles Bulldog Club as they Host the  annual Bulldog Charity Ball at the Pasadena Humane Society. A Fundraiser event in which all proceeds benefit the Southern California Bulldog Rescue. $15 minimum donation to enter $10 for dogs and includes food and photo! There will be  a King and Queen Contest ($5 donation to participate), Special prizes to the winners! Live DJ, dancing raffles, giveaways. Socal Bulldog Rescue will be there too! Join OC Animal Care for the 2nd Annual Howling Halloween in the Park.  Kids and pets are encouraged to dress up in costumes for Trick-or-Treating and a costume contest.

Happy Howl – Burbank

Downtown Burbank comes alive to the sounds of thousands of costumed kids and oodles of poodles decked to the K-9’s for Halloween. Parents are invited to bring their goblins and ghouls for an early evening of trick-or-treating. Downtown Burbank merchants provide free treats from store-to-store. And pet owners are encouraged to bring along their favorite K-9 dressed in the Halloween spirit for the Annual Downtown Dog Parade on the AMC Walkway. All well-behaved pets are welcome. Dogs must wear leashes.


Prizes for best large and small dog costumes as well as treats for both the two- and four-legged species in attendance.  Frightfully fun events.  Trick or treat bags for dogs or cats.
