Howlin’ Halloween Events for Dogs and Cats in Los Angeles

Halloween isn’t just for the two legged folks, let the 4 legged ones play too! Below are places where both you can your pet can play in costume.  Note: a lot of these start a bit early, or late,  to leave the end of the month for the humans.

Let the dogs come out and play! Participate in fundraisers and animal rescues as well. We’ve now found events for Wolves and Horses.  We haven’t found Halloween events for cats this year, please let us know if you find any.

Haute Dog Howl’oween Parade & Canine Costume Contest –  Long Beach

2017 Update As the title says, this is a doggie costume contest!!! Bring your pet and howl with the pampered pooches.

Hundreds of dogs expected! And, a few thousand spectators will line the parade route which will be on the concrete bike path that runs through the park from Colorado St. to Eliot St.  See website for parade map. Parade 2:30 . Prizes of a year’s dog food for best costume, best group and best “float”.

Besides the costume contest and parade, bulldog kissing booth, bobbing for Howl’oWeenies, look-a-like contest and more. Super pet adoption fair. Bulldog Kissing Booth – SLURP!

The Rescue Train – Race for the Rescues

2017 Update Annual run for the rescue — rescue animals that is. 5 k run walk for adults and a 1k non-competition race for the kids. 1k dog walk.  Fun activities for animal lovers of every age! Including prizes and awards for top racers and fundraisers, celebrity art auction, Halloween Rescue Show, Drawing classes for kids, dog training demonstration, doggie bounce house, unique pet products, food trucks, face painting, pet physic and more! If you don’t want to run, bring your pet out for a fun day. If you don’t have a pet yet, consider adoption. A number of groups will have dogs and cats out there.

Sponsored by The Rescue Train, Best Friends Animal Society, The Lange Foundation, Kitten Rescue, A Dog’s Life Rescue, Four Legged Friends Foundation, Animal Alliance & Molly’s Mutts and Meows. Each year these 7 non-profit animal rescues save, house, give medical treatment and find loving homes for approximately 1500 once-forgotten animals. (Since 2006.)

Surf City Surf Dog

2017 Update Grab your surfboard and your pup and hit the waves. Pooches will be able to “hang 20” in surfing competitions and strut their stuff in a variety of dog-gone fun activities and contests while raising funds for animal welfare organizations. All activities will take place at Huntington Dog Beach, starting at 8 a.m.. Surf Dog Competition, Woofin’ Walk, Look-a-like, costume contest, Cowabunga Costume Contest and Woofin Walk participants.

All dogs must wear a life vest. Special Surf City Surf Dog vests will be available for rent or purchase. Surfboards will be for rent. See site for judging criteria and point system.

Halloween with the Wolf Ambassadors of Apex Protection Project New Event

2017 Update We invite you to come and celebrate this Halloween in nature with the pack, under the stars, enveloped by the peaceful sound of Tibetan Singing Bowls.  This is a unique and intimate day of adventure and healing.  You spend the day with the Wolf Ambassadors of the Apex Pack and you will create unforgettable memories through hands-on, interactive engagement.

Basic schedule: Greet the pack.  A beautiful guided hike over the desert hills with lots of stops to enjoy the Apex Ambassador Pack as they run and play off-leash. (Approx 1 hr moderate hike over rocky terrain.)  Peaceful snuggle time at the top of the hill.  Back for dinner with wine.  (Options for vegan and vegetarian as well. )  Then move into a beautiful healing circle.  We will relax on yoga mats or blankets outside under the night sky for an Intuitively Guided Sound Bath & Meditation where you can allow yourself to be still, relax, reflect, feel the energy of the pack, soak in the sounds, feelings, energy. We may even get to join in a beautiful howl all together with the pack.

2017 Update Bring your four-legged friend in costume for a haunted Happy Hour celebration at Constance Perry’s Patio. Join us for small bites, drinks and dog treats. The event is FREE and open to the public.  For every $15 donation you will receive a digital, Halloween-themed pet portrait. Proceeds benefit the Pasadena Humane Society.

2017 Update  Eagle Rock Bark Halloween Block Party and Kitty and Doggie Rescue Adoption is a fun-filled, activity-packed event for the entire family! It is a volunteer run community event.   This event will be Halloween themed with a Trick-or-Treat Village full of fun games, contests, freebies and more!

Howlin’ Halloween Family Event – Pasadena  New Event

2017 Update Trick or treat! Join us on Halloween afternoon for a Howlin’ Halloween community event at the Pasadena Humane Society. Families are invited to visit to shelter for Halloween-inspired crafts, trivia games with giveaways, and, of course, candy. Attendees will have the chance to tour the kennels and view adoptable pets. This event is best suited for children ages 6-14. Costumes are welcome, but please leave your pets at home.

Let’s Ride Annual Horse Show & Halloween Games Fundraiser  New Event

2017 Update We’re proud to announce Let’s Ride Equestrian Program‘s first annual fundraising event hosted by Rancho Tujunga in collaboration with Starwood Riding Club. Join us for a fun-filled day of equestrian competition and holiday games on and off horses.

Food will be available for purchase and the event will include an auction where participants can bid on great items such as gift cards, vintage cowboy goods and cash redeemable at East Valley Feed & Tack Shop!  Traditional competition (English and Western Equitation, Jumping and Obstacle Course) classes are divided according to riding level. (Let’s Ride Therapeutic Equestrian Program is for adults and children with disabilities. Located in the Sunland/Tujunga area, we help those with emotional issues and developmental disabilities to develop positive behaviors through the use of horses.) 

Join us for our Halloween Costume Classes! You may dress yourself, your horse, or both of you in a costume. No masks allowed. The costume must include a helmet if riding. There will be a non-­riding costume class as well. There will be games that are not on horseback for siblings or anyone who just wants to have fun between riding competition.

Raise the Woof! – Pasadena  New Event

2017 UpdatePasadena Animal League presents our  Dinner and Auction fundraiser, RAISE THE WOOF! This will benefit Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA’s transportation program, which can be very costly in trying to move animals across Los Angeles County to a safe haven and possibly a loving forever home.

Guests will enjoy a fun-filled evening with a farm-to-table catered dinner, wine, beer and signature cocktails, silent and live auctions including exciting celebrity donations, entertainment and tail-wagging fun all. Seating is limited.

A Night at the Museum – Riverside

Annual Bulldog Charity Ball

2017 Update Join us for fund raiser evening at the Riverside Art Museum located in historic downtown Riverside.  The evening will include a taco bar with all the sides, beer, wine and dessert. There will be auctions and raffles as we watch the sunset this evening ‘roof top’ at the museum. Your tickets for admission to the event will be held at the door for you and we look forward to seeing you.  Well behaved bulldogs are welcomed to the event.

This event is being held roof top at the Riverside Art Museum and a light sweater or jacket might be needed if the evening gets too cool.

Happy Howl – Burbank

Downtown Burbank comes alive to the sounds of thousands of costumed kids and oodles of poodles decked to the K-9’s for Halloween. Parents are invited to bring their goblins and ghouls for an early evening of trick-or-treating. Downtown Burbank merchants provide free treats from store-to-store. And pet owners are encouraged to bring along their favorite K-9 dressed in the Halloween spirit for the Annual Downtown Dog Parade on the AMC Walkway. All well-behaved pets are welcome. Dogs must wear leashes.
