Spooky Science - Skeletons!  Discovery Science Center  

Discovery Science Center mixes science, art and culture, showcases the science under your skin! Spooky Science: Skeletons will highlight “Dia de los Muertos” art and activities, while incorporating hands-on science lessons. Special events will be held on weekends throughout the exhibition.

Examine skeletons of all kinds and explore the differences between human bones and a variety of animal bones to see how science operates beneath your skin. Piece together skeletons, play larger-than-life Operation-style game.  Spooky Science: Skeletons is part of their special Fall exhibition - Head to Toe: All About Your Body.

Discovery Science Center's annual Spooky Science exhibition is a SPOOKtacular good time! Participate in fun science experiments, enjoy trick-or-treat goodie bags and explore a spooky maze. Extra fun on the weekends.

Spider Pavilion - Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County  

 "The Spider Pavilion, the only public spider-viewing center of its kind in the country. Gallery interpreters guide you in small groups through the Pavilion where you can get up close to Orb Weaver spiders as they busily create intricate webs, interact with one another and feed on their prey."

They also have special evening events to make it not your average date night.  Flashlight tours, game show nights, spider cinema and trick or treating.

Twilight Night - Kidspace Children's Museum

Boo and Goo at the La Brea Tar Pats

Seeing Things: Ghost Polaroids

   Drkrm. Gallery is hosting a special, limited-run Halloween retrospective called "Seeing Things".  It is the first public viewing of this rare and unique collection of paranormal photographs.  This exhibit explores the boundary between the known and the unknown.  Is the image of the room with the ghostly writing the way we see ghosts, or is it the way ghosts see us?  Come and explore these strangely surreal photographs and decide.

October Shadows 

  Creature Features’ annual homage to the Halloween spirit celebrating the mysterious tradition of ‘All Hallows Eve.’ original works by and eclectic roster of artists, including Travis Louie, Cam de Leon, Chet Zar, William Stout, Dan Brereton, and Gris Grimly. Installations and sculptures will also be on view with work by Academy Award wining make-up artist Jordu Schell. The exhibit and book by the same name features a prestigious group of artists from all facets of fine art, illustration, comics, film, TV, and animation, conjuring a wealth of imagery that explore the grotesque and the occult.

Halloween and the Culture Wars - The Huntington Library

  Part of the distinguished fellowship lectures.  Halloween might seem a childish holiday, but it has often been at the center of cultural conflict, notes Nicholas Rogers, professor of history at York University in Toronto and the Fletcher Jones Foundation Distinguished Fellow at The Huntington. Rogers will examine how Halloween has sparked contentious debate on many fronts: about the use of urban space, alternative religious practices, Latino identity, and more.

The Sound behind the Image III: Real Horrorshow!

 Academy Award®-winning supervising sound editor David E. Stone hosts an evening exploring the art and technology of sound in motion pictures and the important role sound plays in shaping horror films. Mark Mangini, three-time Oscar® nominee for sound effects editing, and Richard L. Anderson, two-time Oscar nominee for sound effects editing and Special Achievement Award winner, will take the audience behind the scenes to learn how sound effects were created for “Poltergeist” (1982). Oscar-winning production sound mixer Gene Cantamessa and supervising sound editor Don Hall will explore their work behind the scenes of “Young Frankenstein” (1974). Other participants include foley artist Vanessa Theme Ament, sound effects editor and foley artist Louis Kleinman, sound rerecording mixer Christian Minkler and sound effects wrangler Steve Lee
